Acclaimed artist Vincent Fantauzzo was overcome with emotion at the grand opening of his gallery on Chapel St, South Yarra on Thursday night.
Fantauzzo, along with business partner Larry Kestelman, hosted VIP guests for a first look at his artistic journey, inspirations and personal story.
“I’m surrounded by the most exceptional people,” Fantauzzo said.
“Asher always says to me before a speech, don’t drink too much and don’t f…ng swear.
“I just want to thank Larry, he’s such an amazing friend. He’s in this for all the right reasons. Having someone like (him) have faith in me means so much. We want to make art accessible. Art should not be pretentious, it should be for everyone.”
Fantauzzo’s guests included footy figures Neale Daniher and Darcy Moore, whose portraits are on display in the Gallery, plus close friend Kim Ledger, father of late actor Heath Ledger, who flew over from Perth.
Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch also made the effort to attend after hosting another function first.
Others in attendance included Eddie McGuire, Gillon McLachlan, Sue Gudinski, Mary Coustas, Shane and Maha Delia, Martin Pakula, Kylie Watson Wheeler, Gerry and Val Ryan, David Bromley, Tim Rogers, Sullivan Stapleton and Nicky Whelan.
The Gallery also offered an exclusive preview of Fantauzzo’s upcoming book called Unveiled, his memoir released next week.
“You get to a certain point in your life where art meets business and the magic happens,” said NBL owner Kestelman.
“This space is just the beginning, it’s something that will be here for many, many years to come.”
