An Aussie influencer has been labelled “tone deaf” and a “first world problem queen” after publicly complaining about cancelled flights due to the Bali volcano eruption.
Lauren Bullen, known as gypsea_lust on social media posted to her two million followers on Instagram Wednesday afternoon, complaining about the inconvenience of the situation.
“No no no no no anyone have info on flight cancellations in Bali?? I have a very important weekend in Australia,” she wrote.
By a very important weekend, she means her best friend’s bachelorette party.
Nine people died, 31 have been injured and more than 11,000 people evacuated due to multiple eruptions from the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano.
While budget airline Batik is still offering flights to Australia, Bullen told Confidential she would only fly with a reputable airline.
“Look up Batik Air recent news articles of pilots falling asleep … if all these other airlines are cancelling due to safety then this airline is unsafe if they’re continuing to fly through it,” she explained.
After a follower called her out as a “first world problem queen”, Bullen reposted to her story writing, “Yes I am a mother and I am allowed to be upset about the idea of missing my best friend’s big weekend.”
Other followers have also criticised Bullen for being “extremely tone deaf”.
“I get it, she’s entitled to feel upset or disappointed ... Poverty is widespread in Indonesia and she’s complaining about flights she can easily afford,” a former follower told Confidential.
Originally from Northern NSW, the 31-year-old currently lives in Bali with her partner Liam and newborn baby, Lumae.
