Superstar singer Tina Arena is being praised for how she handled an intoxicated woman who ignited a brawl in the crowd at her show on Friday night.
An audience member described the person as out of control with four security guards needed to remove her from the fronts rows of the Palais Theatre in St Kilda.
It’s believed the woman was punching strangers and kicking them with Arena handling it calmly and professionally, saying, “darling you need to leave the show”.
Another person said it was like people had been at the races all day drinking and it was an unusual atmosphere.
Entertainment reporter Peter Ford shared a video of Arena stopping the show and saying: “Ladies and gentleman if we could please just have some calm in this all, I would really appreciate it. I’ve never experienced anything like this in 50 years.”
Ford said it was a difficult and startling situation an Arena was rattled.
“What a reminder how long Tina Arena’s been around,’’ Ford said on Channel 7’s Sunrise.
“Back in the day she worked at a lot of pretty wild pubs and clubs. It’s not what you expect to happen at a Tina Arena concert. The people shouting abuse at one another were not easily going to leave and security did have to intervene. One woman threw herself to the ground and said don’t you dare touch me.”
One concertgoer said she’d never experienced so many people getting up and walking down aisles at a concert.
Arena, who scolded a concertgoer for taking a toilet break on Thursday night, is continuing her 30th anniversary Don’t Ask Again tour in Queensland.
