Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip from the weekend.
Mason Cox had a weekend to remember, kicking his 100th goal in another finals win and also catching the attention of pop princess Delta Goodrem.
The Magpie declared himself an unashamed fan of the Born to Try singer after AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan was captured sharing a dance with her at the AFL function pre-match on Friday.
She also drew widespread acclaim for her rendition of the national anthem prior to the game.
If you ever need another dance partner let me know!

How good are Gilâs moves btw!? ð¤¯@AFL@caty_pricehttps://t.co/zmxUEqbI8Cpic.twitter.com/pUXpntZe9w
“If you ever need another dance partner let me know! How good are Gil’s moves btw!?” Cox tweeted.
To Cox’s excitement Goodrem replied with a few enthusiastic emojis.
Meanwhile Gill’s dancing turned into singing on Saturday night when he joined Pete Murray on stage for a few lines of his hit Opportunity. He is sure going out of the CEO role on a high note.
Brownlow backflip for Tony Jones
Tim Watson has weighed into Brownlow-gate: the drama surrounding Tony Jones being overlooked for an invite to the Brownlow.
The pair have in recent times traded barbs but frosty air turned warm when Watson extended the olive branch and offered Jones his plus one to footy’s night of nights on Sunday.
“100 per cent,’’ Watson said on SEN. “I haven’t heard from him at this stage, but the offer is there for him to take up if he wants to.”
Jones’ Sunday Footy Show colleague Kane Cornes thought it sounded like there was a bit of nastiness in the offer but Jones took a different view.
“Stop trying to drive a wedge between me and him … I saw it as an act of friendship if you like.”
Dane Swan also offered up his invite as a previous winner, and even previous Brownlow winner Robert DiPierdomenico, a guest on the show, chipped in and commented on Brownlow-gate.
“It was a joke,” Jones insisted, after he responded last week to his non-invite with the comment “it’s a crap night”.
“It was a running joke and some people need to lighten up and see it for what it was. It’s a great night and I’ll certainly be going along with my wife.”
A few feathers were ruffled after we reported on the situation but we are aware it was all a bit of theatre.
Jones has now imposed a ‘media gag’ on himself but will attend with his wife after the AFL said it was an oversight and did extend an invite. Look forward to the next update on Brownlow-gate.
Swan’s goose is cooked
Dane Swan didn’t have the ‘Silly Sunday’ he had planned after landing in hospital.
After playing for St Kilda City, the Collingwood great was nursing an ankle injury but the situation escalated forcing him into a cast and a bed on Sunday night.
“I wanted to be cooked but not this cooked,’’ Swan posted on social media.
He added: “Local footy would be fun they said …”
At least it wasn’t all for nothing after the Brownlow medallist helped the team through to the preliminary final. In the same game Brendan Fevola ended up coming off with concussion.
Brown hits cricket commentary practice for six
Nathan Brown is hitting his cricket ambitions out of the park.
The Triple M commentator is hoping to land a gig in the other sport he loves over summer and had a practice run which was aired by the Friday Huddle team.
Brown called it a “broadening” but admits he’s keen.
“It’s a process and I’m just starting out … I did enjoy it and I love cricket,’’ he said.
“I didn’t miss a one day international when I was younger. I love cricket and I want to be part of it.”
High praise came from fellow commentator and Fox Cricket regular frontman Mark Howard.
