Taylor Swift has hundreds of songs but none of them include this word

A deep dive into Taylor Swifts discography reveals the artist’s most explicit lyrics. But here’s the one word she has never sang in a song.

Taylor Swift is notoriously honest when it comes to writing lyrics about dating. Fourteen albums into the game and she has mastered the art of romance and love, however, her lyrics remain relatively PG-rated. Or do they?

As Taylor Swift’s music has evolved from country to pop, so too has her willingness to embrace sexuality. At the start of her career you would be hard pressed to find explicit sexual content, which makes sense as her audience has largely been made up of tween and teen girls.

However, Swift is known for her complex lyrics and cryptic Easter eggs, so it’s no surprise she’s been subtly working in more explicit lyrics throughout the years.

Growing up alongside her audience, Taylor has provided love anthems for almost two decades. From falling in love to surviving bad break ups, she has helped her fans mature when it comes to matters of the heart – while still sticking true to her positive role model archetype.

With The Eras Tour currently wowing Australia, let’s take a look at the evolution of Taylor Swift’s subtle foray into explicit content and her sexiest lyrics (that make for great pick-up lines).

All the swear words in Taylor Swift’s songs

“It’s fine to talk about love publicly, but I think when you talk about virginity and sex publicly, people just automatically picture you naked,” Swift told Allure magazine in 2009.

“And as much as I can prevent people picturing me naked, I’m going to.”

For years the record breaking Grammy award winner was known for her wholesome, down-to-earth country music. However, Swift transitioned to pop with her 2014 album 1989, but still kept her music family friendly. Until Midnights, Taylor didn’t swear that much in her earlier albums.

The word ‘damn’ was used in just one song in her debut album, Taylor Swift. No swear words appeared in her next two albums, Fearless and Speak Now.

In 2017 Swift released Reputation, which saw her return to music after three years. Reputation was arguably Swift’s edgiest album, seeing her take back control of the her own narrative and cementing her transformation from America’s sweetheart, to proud feminist. Her declaration in I Did Something Bad, “If a man talks s**t then I owe him nothing,” formally marked her dive into the world of explicit lyrics.

With Lover in 2019 came the line, “I’d be a b***h, not a baller” from The Man. But the most explicit tracks didn’t arrived until her pandemic-era 2020 sister albums Folklore and Evermore, opening Evermore with “I’m doing good, I’m on some new s**t”.

Midnights, released in 2022, was the first album to sport a Parental Advisory label and is Taylor’s most explicit album. The 13-track project includes six explicit songs featuring lyrics with crude words.

What words appear in Taylor’s songs the most?

Despite the subtle inclusion of explicit words over the years, Swift has never once used the word ‘sex’ in any of her songs. In fact, the only time she’s ever used the term ‘sexy’ in all 14 albums is in Anti-Hero, “Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a sexy baby and I’m a monster on a hill.”

Coming as no surprise, “Love” is the most used word in all Taylor Swift songs appearing 431 times. “Never” comes in a close second, mentioned 428 times.
