‘The door is always open’: Kate Ritchie talks chance of Sally Fletcher returning to Home and Away

After she portrayed beloved character Sally Fletcher on Home and Away, Kate Ritchie says the show’s producers have told her “the door is always open” for her highly-anticipated return.

Gold Logie winner Kate Ritchie has not ruled out making a brief return to Home and Away, the long running soap which launched her career.

Ritchie, who co-hosts the Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie breakfast show on Nova radio in Sydney, said any opportunity would “have to make sense” but cautioned she was not looking to add anything to her packed schedule at the moment as she juggled life.

The Home and Away production team has never lost touch with Ritchie, who created one of the show’s most loved characters in Sally Fletcher.

“They have stopped calling, but they have told me the door is always open,” Ritchie said at the ACRA Awards.

“I think they were getting tired of calling and me saying ‘it is not right’.

“The idea of being back there and seeing everyone and working with all those actors again is not something I would not want to do, it is just whether it makes sense anymore.

“All of the new viewers they have, I mean half of them would not know who Sally is.”

She added: “To be honest I have my work cut out for me with work and parenthood and life generally, let alone throwing another job.”

Ritchie said she was loving being part of Nova breakfast after joining Fitzy and Wippa in the shift in March 2023.

“Joining the show with Fitzy and Wippa has been incredible and I really have learnt a great deal from them personally and professionally,” she said.

“They really took me under their wing and welcomed me to the show. I knew the team and Fitzy and Wippa for many years beforehand so it was almost as if the banter from the hallways has now extended on to the air.”
