A former Channel 7 presenter has been hit with fresh charges after he allegedly strangled a woman until she blacked out following a boozy night out.

A former Channel 7 presenter is facing fresh charges of assault after he allegedly strangled a woman until she lost consciousness during a violent altercation.

Police allege Liam David Cox assaulted and strangled a woman at a house in Vaucluse, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, on the evening of May 4.

The court previously heard he had been drinking champagne and espresso martinis at a charity fundraiser before a dispute with the woman turned violent.

The woman told police the 39-year-old had wrestled her to the ground, straddled her, and proceeded to forcefully strangle her until she blacked out.

“He tried to kill me,” the court previously heard she told police.

Officers allegedly found the woman bleeding from her nose and coughing up blood when they arrived at the house.

She was hospitalised for injuries which allegedly included red marks on her abdomen, shoulder, and neck.

The court previously heard Mr Cox told police he was defending himself after the pair had violently clashed, but admitted he had not used reasonable force.

He has been charged with the domestic violence offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentionally choking a person without consent.

On Thursday, court documents revealed that police laid an additional two charges against Mr Cox earlier this month.

According to the documents, he has now been charged with two counts of common assault against the same alleged victim.

Police allege the former television presenter assaulted the woman in the Sydney area at the same approximate time as the other alleged domestic violence offences.

He then allegedly assaulted the woman again within 24 hours while he was in Rozelle, according to police allegations.

On Thursday, a police prosecutor told Sydney Downing Centre Court that most of the brief of evidence against Mr Cox had been served on his lawyer.

“There are still a few outstanding items,” he noted.

He asked for an adjournment to allow the police to collect and serve the remaining elements.

The court was told the Director of Public Prosecutions has elected to handle the case in future.

Magistrate Margaret Quinn put the matter over until August, along with an apprehended violence order taken out by police to restrict Mr Cox’s interaction with his alleged victim.

Mr Cox has not yet entered pleas to the charges against him.

The court previously heard the former TV presenter has moved back in with his mother after he was granted bail last month.

He was ordered to comply with strict bail conditions that require him to refrain from contacting the woman, to surrender his passport, and to regularly report to police.

The 39-year-old is also prohibited from approaching the area surrounding the Vaucluse house where the domestic violence offences allegedly occurred.

He worked as a journalist for 20 years, during which time he worked as a presenter for Channel Seven, Channel Ten, and radio station Triple M.
