The Day of the Jackal only just premiered on BINGE and Foxtel, but already it is the platforms’ biggest new series launch this year.
In fact, it is the biggest new scripted series launch on Foxtel since The Last of Us in 2023.
The new action series stars Eddie Redmayne in the title role, playing the elusive lone assassin who assumes one identity after another as he eliminates his targets one by one.
The British actor was born to play the role, given his ability to transform before our very eyes with each character he plays on-screen. From portraying a transgender woman in The Danish Girl to his Oscar-winning turn as physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, Redmayne knows how to morph into his subjects.
As The Jackal, Redmayne is a contract killer who gets caught up in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe as police try to determine his true identity and put an end to his killing spree.
Stream The Day of the Jackal on BINGE and Foxtel, available on Hubbl.
Five episodes of The Day of the Jackal were released altogether on November 7, with many viewers binge-watching the series this past weekend and giving it the thumbs up on X.
“The day of the Jackal is top tier television! And exactly what i needed!”
“The day of the jackal has got me in a HEADLOCK.”
“Definitely at the top of the best new shows this year. Proper writing, no rushed plots, and excellent storylines.”
“Proper proper shows, can’t wait for ep 6 of The Day of the Jackal.”
The 10-part series – the next five episodes drop weekly from Thursday – is based on the thriller novel by English author Frederick Forsyth. It was turned into a movie in 1973 starring Edward Fox in the title role, and now Redmayne is the face of the series adaptation.
Fans were surprise at the casting, but after seeing the Oscar winner in character, they were sold.
“I was surprised when I heard Eddie Redmayne was playing the lead, but now I think he’s perfect for the role,” one tweeted, with another agreeing, “Didn’t have Eddie Redmayne down as playing a cold-blooded assassin but he’s shocked with me with how good he is.”
There are even calls for the actor to play the next James Bond with jokes the series is just one giant ploy from Redmayne to win the role as 007.
“Anyone else watching the new The Day Of The Jackal thinking … … Wouldn’t Eddie Redmayne make a great James Bond?”
“15 mins of Day Of The Jackal and I think Eddie Redmayne should be considered for James Bond.”
“Eddie Redmayne wouldn’t be a terrible Bond btw.”
The Day of the Jackal is now streaming on BINGE and Foxtel, available on Hubbl
