The Simpsons: Fan re-edits scene to uncover long-lost joke

A tech-savvy fan has managed to unearth never-before-heard audio from the long-running cartoon, revealing a joke buried in the show.

With the help of audio processing, a diehard The Simpsons fan has unearthed never-before-heard audio — and, in turn, revealed another joke.

In a season three episode, Homer is taking his son, Bart, to the boy’s first-ever rock concert, but the buffoonish dad’s tinnitus, or ear ringing, drowns out a warning from his wife, Marge.

Now, a tech-savvy fan of the series has figured out how to reveal what concerned Marge is actually saying.

Twitter user Ewzzy Rayburn flexed his editing skills, posting the edited and unedited versions of the scene.

By removing sound effects and boosting Marge’s voice in Adobe Audition, Rayburn, who works as a professional video editor, unveiled Marge’s stark warning.

“Well, all right, but make sure [Bart and Lisa] don’t pick up any of the band’s attitudes toward liquor, religion, politics … really, anything,” Marge says in reference to the show’s headliners — mockumentary rock group Spinal Tap.

Rayburn’s tweet earned 1 million views and more than 20,000 likes.

The video featured a quote from the Fox show’s producers talking about the nearly eternally-lost joke, saying it took them “a long time to write it,” but ended up drowning it out in the final edit.

The cartoon sitcom has been known for predicting future events, such as former President Donald Trump’s arrest and this summer’s highly-anticipated “Barbie” movie.

But the Simpsons masterminds say their seeming clairvoyance is just pure luck.

“One of our writers, the guy whose episode predicted Donald Trump as president, said it best: ‘If you write 700 episodes, and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad. If you throw enough darts, you’re going to get some bullseyes,’” showrunner Al Jean previously told NME.
