HE has quit his Financial Review column, and it seems former federal Labor leader Mark Latham’s status us a commentator on Channel Seven’s Sunrise is also under review.
Sunrise executive producer Michael Pell on Tuesday said the controversial Latham was not employed by Sunrise, rather he is “an occasional contributor”.
GOOD RIDDANCE: Why Mark Latham needed to go
“While we welcome commentators on the show with a range of views, this situation warrants further investigation. In the meantime, he’s not currently booked to appear,” Pell said in a statement.
Pell’s statement came after Latham’s resignation as a columnist with the Australian Financial Review in the wake of him being accused by online site Buzzfeed of being a twitter troll linked to a Twitter account called @RealMarkLatham.
Latham has also been under fire for his views on feminism and other social issues, including targeting Australian of the Year domestic violence survivor Rosie Batty, accusing her of commercialising her personal tragedy.
Other targets included transgender military officer Cate McGregor, who he referred to as “he/she” and other prominent media identities including Lisa Wilkinson, Leigh Sales, Tara Moss and Mia Freedman.
On Sunrise earlier this year, Latham famously locked horns with host David Koch and former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, when post-budget, he accused Koch of going too soft in a post-budget interview with Prime Minister Tony Abbott, accusing Koch of “all but kissing the Prime Minister on the cheek”.
“Kochie, I’ve got something you haven’t got, and I’ve got something Jeff Kennett will never have — and that’s an economics degree,” Latham added.
