She’s resigned, but Lee Lin Chin still has a presence at SBS

SHE abruptly left the multicultural broadcaster after more than three decades, but Lee Lin Chin is still front and centre at SBS.

This is why Lee Lin Chin is an absolute boss

HER Twitter feed may have fallen briefly silent, and SBS weekend news bulletins just aren’t the same without her, but iconic newsreader Lee Lin Chin can still be heard at SBS.

Those desperate for the dulcet tones of the acid-tongued news icon can simply call the network, where Chin is manning the phones.

At least, her voice is.

That’s what you’ll hear as your call is directed through the switchboard when you call the multicultural broadcaster’s 1800 number.

Relax — it’s prerecorded. Chin hasn’t picked up a couple of days a week casual since resigning her spot from SBS a few weeks ago.

Frenzal Rhomb guitarist and ABC radio presenter Lindsay McDougall pointed out the fact Chin was on the phone recording in a tweet today.

The formidable fashionista delivered her last news bulletin on Sunday, July 29, calling wrap on 30 years with the network after announcing her departure just days earlier.

She later clarified she was resigning, not retiring, because “retirement is death”.

In typical Chin style, she wrapped her last bulletin with a succinct tweet to her 233,000 Twitter followers: “30 years goes by rather fast. Goodbye.”

She also vowed she’d pop up again — including on social media, where she carved out cult status as an “alcoholic, fashion-obsessed, violent, sexual monster” thanks to hilarious tweets which were the work of Chin and her “straight white” collaborative sidekick, Chris Leben.

The pair worked together on satire show The Feed, where Chin sealed her foul-mouthed, beer-swilling, acerbic and always hilarious persona adored by the public.

Chin attributed her resignation to “small to medium sized reasons”, adding “working two days a week didn’t give me enough time to devote to the pub and re-reading the complete works of Shakespeare. So now that I work zero days that issue has been addressed.”

Chin developing several projects with Leben and Daniel Hartley-Allen, who she also worked with on The Feed.
