SENATOR Jacqui Lambie last night revealed she’d been threatened with a “beheading” — but vowed the “low-life bastards” wouldn’t silence her.
The controversial Tasmanian senator appeared on new Channel 9 panel show The Verdict and told host Karl Stefanovic about the “legitimate threats” made against her.
Ms Lambie said in March that she’d been targeted by threats after making comments about Islam and Sharia Law — but she has never discussed them in great detail.
“It was a credible threat,” Ms Lambie told Stefanovic. “I don’t know how much further that’s actually gone. But, you know, I just — I can’t let it be a distraction. That’s the first thing. And you know, I’m a born and bred Australian and I’m really proud of that and I’m even prouder because I’m a born and bred Tasmanian and I’m not going to let this stop me from doing what needs to be done.”
It was revealed one of the letters contained graphic photos, including one depicting a beheading, and threats to come to her office and “take her by surprise” if she didn’t stop voicing her opinion on Islam.
She insisted the threats would not stop her carrying out her work or voicing her opinions.
“If I was to let them scare me that would let them start to take over my life,” she said.
“I think after ten and a half years in the armed forces … you know what, the last thing I’m going to be doing is showing any fear of those low-life bastards, let me tell you right now.”
Police had told her not to talk about the threats, but she had ignored their advice.
“The police can say what they like but, I’ll tell you what, I’m not tolerating that kind of behaviour.”
One threat warned her not go to South Australia, and contained graphic photos — including one depicting a beheading.
There were threats to come to her office and “take her by surprise” if she didn’t stop voicing her opinion on Islam.
Some of her young staffers were alarmed and office security has since been upgraded.
The threats have been investigated by the Australian Federal Police and local police.
