Scarlett Johansson says she “blacked out” as soon as she saw her own photo during husband Colin Jost’s annual joke swap segment on Saturday Night Live last month.
“That’s like a tame version if you guys have ever seen the jokes,” Johansson — who is usually the butt of at least one gag during that segment each year — told Kelly Clarkson on Thursday’s episode of her eponymous talk show.
“As soon as they showed my picture, I — ” the Marvel actress continued, before admitting, “I actually don’t remember that segment. I fully blacked out.”
During the Season 49 finale of the late-night comedy series, Jost and his Weekend Update co-host Michael Che performed their annual joke swap segment where they write offensive jokes for each other to say live.
“ChatGPT has released a new voice assistant feature inspired by Scarlett Johansson’s AI character in Her,” Jost, 42, started with an anxious laugh.
“Which I’ve never bothered to watch, because without that body, what’s the point of listening?” he said, shocking the audience.
Johansson, 39, further lamented on the segment telling Clarkson, “It is brutal, I feel like every year it gets worse.”
“We need to, like, go into witness protection that night. Like, I am absolutely terrified we’re gonna be like, targeted. It’s so bad,” Johansson explained.
This isn’t the first time the comedian has publicly cracked jokes at his wife’s expense.
During their Christmas joke swap last December, Jost performed one of Che’s written jokes for him that forced him to poke fun at his wife by comparing her to a highly regarded civil rights icon.
In the joke, Jost said that a recent law passed in New York that allows alcohol to be served in movie theatres was the only thing that made him enjoy his Johansson’s “little art movies.”
He then issued a fake apology, also written by Che, “I’m kidding, honey. I love all of your movies. And if you ask me, you’re an even better Black Widow than Coretta Scott King.”
Johansson and Jost have been married since 2020.
