The controversial life and times of pop stars Nick Carter and Aaron Carter are set to be the subject of an upcoming warts-and-all documentary titled Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter.

The four-part docuseries presented by Investigation Discovery, which airs on Foxtel, BINGE and Fetch from June 7, will delve into the siblings’ volatile relationship with each other as well as the personal challenges they each battled away from the stage.

Both Nick and Aaron swiftly rose to fame after Nick went global with the Backstreet Boys in the ‘90s with Aaron following suit in the early 2000s as a child singer and rapper.

But their squeaky-clean images would later come into question when controversy surrounded the pair.

In 2017, Nick was accused of sexual assault by Melissa Schuman, an actress and former member of the girl group DREAM.

She alleged the sexual assault took place in 2002 when she was 18 and he was 22 – at the height of their pop careers.

Schuman gives an emotional interview in the docuseries which also features interviews with Ashley Repp and Shay Ruth, women who have also come forward in recent years with their own allegations of sexual assault against Nick, now 44.

The Backstreet Boy was not criminally charged for any of the allegations, which he has vehemently denied.

“Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual,” he previously said in a statement via his lawyer.

“We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally.”

As Nick battled the allegations, Aaron appeared to support his brother’s accusers all while battling addiction and struggling with his own mental health.

A very public feud between the pair played out on social media in the years before Aaron’s accidental drowning in 2022.

“I’m here for these women!! @AshleyRepp @MelissaSchuman right by there side and I’m using my platform to help these women feel #Brave,” Aaron tweeted in 2019.

The Carter family’s dysfunctional dynamics is also explored in the documentary with a voiceover suggesting it was made worse by “money, fame and jealousy”.

Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter premieres Friday, June 7 at 9.30pm (double episodes, over two weeks) on Investigation Discovery, available only on Foxtel, BINGE and Fetch.
