Aussie comedian mocks ScoMo over cancelled party

Aussie comedian Rove McManus has slammed former PM Scott Morrison after his farewell dinner was reportedly postponed due to a low number of responses to invitations.

The dinner was due to take place in Morrison’s electorate in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire next week, but invitees were told it was postponed so the Liberal Party can focus on winning the Cook by-election on April 13.

Critics were quick to point out it was a strange reason for moving the event, given Cook is one of the city’s safest Liberal seats.

Since then, reports have emerged that the event was actually postponed due to a low number of people confirming their attendance.

Hosts of Channel 10’s evening news program The Project did not miss the opportunity to poke fun at the revelations.

“I think it was the raw chicken curry and ukulele playing actually,” comedian Rove McManus joked on Friday night.

“You know what I love most about this, it’s literally Scotty no-mates.”

Comedian Michael Hing also jumped in to poke fun at another public blunder of Morrison’s from during the pandemic.

“This is so funny that they are cancelling this because of low RSVPs, because I’ve got the guest list here,” he said.

“They were going to have a former PM, a former health minister, former finance minister, former energy minister-,” he trailed off as the rest of the panel burst into laughter.

Panellist Georgie Tunny was slightly more sympathetic and said the situation was her own “worst nightmare”.

She said the fear of no-one showing up is exactly why she doesn’t host parties.

McManus added the only thing that could be worse than no-one coming to your party would be the world finding out you had lied about it.

Actor Susie Youssef came in last with her own roast of the former PM’s reported blunder, saying: “this is just the Liberals finally delivering on low interest”.
