Married At First Sight’s final vows left one groom in floods of tears as his world came crashing down around him on national television.

Married At First Sight’s final vows are always dramatic, but Monday night’s episode took things to a new level.

There were some happy endings for a small few, some major tantrums and mud-slinging for others, and viewers got to watch as groom Paul had his heart torn from his chest as his bride decided to end their relationship once and for all.

Paul delivered a long and winding speech that shared his hopes and dreams for a fairytale life with Carina, only for her to shatter his dreams in one swift, devastating blow that saw him break down in front of the camera while his would-be bride walked into the sunset alone.

Carina refused to forgive Paul for his behaviour.

The pair was one of the stronger couples in the experiment – which isn’t saying much considering at one point he literally attacked a wall – until Paul made the silly decision to meet his potential second match.

Carina has been struggling to reconcile her emotions ever since, and sadly in the end she just wasn’t able to shake off the feeling that Paul would always be looking over her shoulder for another woman.

“A few weeks ago, this decision would’ve been easy for me. There’d be no question I want to stay with you,” she told him. “But you threw it all away in a selfish act.”

“In my eyes, that was the final straw. I felt embarrassed, humiliated and disrespected and I never want to feel like that again,” she continued. “I can’t look at you the same way. The trust is broken and I can’t come back from that. Paul, I was yours, you had me and you ruined it. And now you’re going to have to live with that for the rest of your life.”

As her final words left her lips, Paul’s face immediately began to scrunch up as he fought back tears upon realising his dreams of a life with Carina were well and truly over.

“Do you not think you’ll be able to forget about it in the future,” he begged.

An expressionless Carina stood for a second looking at Paul before shaking her head, prompting the heartbroken groom to burst into floods of tears.

Proving too much for her to stand and watch, Carina then turned and walked off without uttering another word as Paul stood alone, still bawling.

“Can’t believe it’s over,” said Paul, insisting he hadn’t even considered the option that Carina might not want to be with him. “I’d like to think that she’s going to regret her decision and that she’ll reach out and decide to continue.”

It makes you wonder why people sign up for this, doesn’t it.
