FBoy Island Australia returns for Season 2

In a plot twist no one saw coming, one male contestant on straight dating show FBoy Island Australia was outed as gay on-camera during this week’s episode.

Nathan Giastis was forced to reveal he was gay after being questioned about his sexuality by host Abbie Chatfield and his female suitors, Krystal Thomas, Nicole Mitrov and Ally Woodfall, who had stalked the male contestants’ social media accounts in an attempt to find some tea on this week’s episode.

You can imagine their surprise then when they look up Nathan’s profile and found he boasts more than 41,000 followers on TikTok and his content included use of rainbow flag emojis, LGBTQIA+ hashtags, and a video in which he claims women are disappointed he isn’t interested in them.

Nicole, who has developed a connection with Nathan on the BINGE series, makes it her mission to get answers from him after she and the girls were convinced he was either bisexual or “queerbaiting” - courting gay attention online.

“Look, I have no problem dating someone bisexual. Have I got an issue with queerbaiting? Sure,” Nicole told producers on-camera.

“But I’m just really confused about Nathan’s socials. Something about them is just not quiet right. I need to figure out what his intentions are here because otherwise see ya.”

Cut to Nicole and Nathan having a deep and meaningful while on their one-on-one date on the beach, during which he confessed he was “a gay FBoy”.

“At this point at the beach I had no idea what to expect or to say – sh***ing myself is an understatement,” Nathan told news.com.au of the encounter.

“Like all the boys, you hope you can make it to the end. So much was going through my mind in terms of how I could stay in the competition depending on how Nicole would react. The only thing that felt right was to come clean out of respect for her.”

Nicole was not expecting him to come out and was equally shocked when he suggested the ladies keep him in the game as their inside spy.

“As all the other boys had plans to lie or twist stories to make their way through the competition and stay longer, I knew I needed a back-up plan before entering the villa, in case my cover was blown,” he told us. “My only way to stay in was to help the girls out.”

Nathan, who was a bartender on the show before he was announced as an actual intruder, said he could be their “mole” and help them find the Nice Guys among the FBoys, who are just on the show to win a share of the $150,000 cash prize pool.

It begs the question: Why did he decided to appear on a straight dating show in the first place if he was gay?

“My original game plan coming onto the show was to lay low and keep under the radar. I don’t openly show my sexuality in my day job as a tradie, so that was not a hard task coming onto the show,” he said.

“My game plan was to win a girl over just like any other guy on the show and make it to the end ... At the end of the day, like the other FBoys on the show, we’re here to win, and this season in particular proves that FBoys come in all shapes, sizes and in my case sexualities.”

His fellow contestants remained clueless as he used his “undercover skills” to “listen in on conversations” about the mens’ lives outside the show and see how they “respected these women behind their backs”.

“Let me tell you there is a lot that gets revealed from cheating rumours, lies and scandals,” he teased. “Being an undercover intruder from the get-go, I already had information on the boys to use against them if I needed to push through the competition, so my offer to become a mole was not a hard task to take up, as the boys have no idea.”

Nathan, who was scouted for the program, said he has no regrets being on the show because he is proud to fly the flag for the gay community, although he must do it on the sly among the other contestants so as not to blow his cover.

“Honestly, there is so much emotion running through me to this day,” he told us.

“I’ve come a long way in accepting my sexuality and saying it’s been an easy ride isn’t the case and I would never have imagined an opportunity to be part of a show, and in this case FBoy island.”

His standing on the series also puts him in vulnerable position – not only has he come out to the entire country, but he’s also opened himself up to criticism.

“With all the highs of being on a reality TV show there’s also that underlying thought of how people will see and portray me, that is a given that I needed to accept coming onto a show like this,” he said. “Already being out to my close family and friends, I never thought I would be coming out to the whole nation like this.

“It’s good to see shows finally allowing people like me to get on board for what was such an amazing, fun and memorable experience.”
