CHANNEL 9 has announced two new major television programs including one that stars Jessica Marais.

Bad Mothers is an ensemble drama from the makers of Here Come the Habibs which centres on four friends negotiating the perils and joys of being a modern mum.

The announcement of Bad Mothers comes after Marais was a no-show at this year’s Logie Awards.

Marais, who is reportedly seeking treatment for a number of health issues, heads a cast including her Love Child co-star Mandy McElhinney, Shalom Brune-Franklin (Doctor Doctor) and Jessica Tovey (Wolf Creek).

“Parenting can be hard but there is a lot to laugh about and these women, though not perfect, aren’t bad mothers though they sometimes fear that they are,” Nine’s co-heads of drama Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney said.

The series will comprise eight episodes and will commence filming in October in Melbourne.

Nine has also commissioned Lego Masters from the makers of Australia Ninja Warrior and Married at First Sight.

Lego Masters pits eight pairs of Brick-heads against each other in a quest to prove their creativity, design and flair.

Casting for the show is now underway with the search for the country’s most passionate Lego builders.

“We are excited that Lego Masters will capture the imagination of all generations, delivering appointment family viewing,” Nine’s director of television, Michael Healy said.

A British version of Lego Masters, hosted by Melvin Odoom began screening in 2017.

Prospective contestants include children as well as adults and a range of expert judges from the fields of engineering, art and design.

Bad Mothers and Lego Masters will debut on Nine in 2019.
