Netflix smash hit The Beast In Me sparks the same complaint about Claire Danes
The Beast In Me has become a huge hit for Netflix, but viewers of the dark thriller are all making the same surprising complaint.
The Beast In Mehas become a huge smash on Netflix, with the Claire Danes led thriller rocketing to the top spot around the world, however, many viewers seem to have the same complaint.
The show tells the story of author Agatha Wiggs (Danes) grieving the loss of her son. She soon finds new purpose unravelling the mystery behind neighbour Nile Jarvis’ (Matthew Rhys) vanished wife and his suspicious dealings.
The intense thriller, which also stars Brittany Snow, has received huge acclaim from critics and fans alike, but one sadly for Danes she’s sparked some debate over one particular aspect of her acting.
For fans of Danes she’s already known for her expressive face and ability to Meryl Streep the s**t out of a mental breakdown, but the actress - and more importantly, her chin - take it to new levels in the Netflix series.
It’s caused fans to rush to social media to question whether they were the only ones who noticed what’s been dubbed Danes’ “chin acting”.
“It’s driving me nuts to the point where I’m not sure if I’ll finish the show. Aside of the never ending lip and chin quiver, she is constantly hyperventilating. She also only has one facial expression. She is also over acting. Kind of a train wreck,” remarked one fan on Reddit.
A second agreed, saying: “Omg the quivering chin. So much so that my google search ‘Claire Danes quivering chin’ led me to this post.”
“YES!!! It’s annoyingly over the top,” chimed in a third enraged viewer.
“The show is good but wtf with her over the top neurotic acting?! Can she chill?! Like in every scene!!” insisted a fourth Netflix user.
Another remarked on Twitter: “I think she’s such a great actress but her shocked, scared, hyperventilating parts were so over the top and sometime a way too much.”
While one fan commented: “Is she paid per chin quiver? Girl must be earning millions!”
However, despite the complaints from some viewers, others were left amazed by Danes’ dedication to the role.
“No one plays unhinged, spiralling, on-the-verge-of-a-nervous-breakdown, but still ostensibly brilliant white woman like Claire Danes,” wrote one.
“Starting to think Claire Danes drops in every 2-3 years to remind us how good she is at playing a crazy white lady, goes away, gives us just enough time for us to recover, and then comes back to traumatise us again,” joked another.
The Beast In Me is streaming on Netflix now.
