My Kitchen Rules: Sonya’s confusing response to hotel altercation claims

BOOTED MKR contestant Sonya was grilled on radio about a physical altercation she was allegedly involved in. Her answers were all over the shop.

Explosive fight on MKR

SONYA from My Kitchen Rules has denied that she got physical during an off-camera altercation with rival teams but refused to comment on her teammate’s actions.

News.com.au published explosive claims from an MKR insider on Saturday who said that part of the reason Sonya and Hadil were kicked off the show was because of a physical altercation in a hotel in Tasmania that took place late last year.

“A few of the teams had gathered in a room and were cooking dinner,” the insider told news.com.au.

“Sonya and Hadil were walking past and they heard a comment through the door. They were very upset by that comment and knocked on the door.”

Italian brothers Josh and Nic answered the door and according to the insider, “an altercation broke out”.

“It started as voices and people arguing and pretty quickly got to push and shove. It blew up in the corridor. Other people on the floor poked their heads out of their doors. It calmed down pretty quickly and everyone returned to their rooms, but it was not a good scene.”

Police weren’t called over the incident and none of the guests lodged a complaint with hotel management.

The insider’s claims were confirmed by Channel Seven who told news.com.au: “While on location in Tasmania, during a break in filming, several members of this year’s teams became involved in an argument which escalated into a physical exchange.

“This regrettable incident was witnessed by other team members. Over the following days, producers put in considerable effort to rebuild the teams and their relationships with each other.

“Eventually, it became apparent the situation was beyond repair, resulting in one team being dismissed from the show.”

Sonya called in to Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM this morning and denied both the insider’s claims and Channel Seven’s that things got physical.

“There was nothing that happened off air that was physical,” the reality contestant, who was kicked off the show in an episode which aired last week, told the radio hosts. “No one bashed anyone.”

Kyle told Sonya that he’d heard a rumour that some people were “spat on” during the hotel altercation which Sonya also denied.

“That’s not something that I would ever do,” she said. “I can assure you that I never spat on anyone at all.”

During the interview with Sonya, fellow MKR contestants Jess and Emma called through and they confirmed that things did indeed get physical in the hotel.

So Kyle and Jackie O asked Sonya: “Who was involved in the physical thing?”

“Look, I think Hadil’s the one to answer that,” Sonya said about her teammate.

When Jackie O asked again if something physical happened, Sonya carefully answered, “I can tell you that I was not physical.”

Hadil wasn’t available to defend herself on air this morning but it’s rumoured the booted MKR contestant will appear on A Current Affair tonight.

Kyle and Jackie O spoke to Jess and Emma earlier on their radio show as well, and the blond contestants claimed they offered to leave the show after the verbal fight that broke out at Kim and Suong’s instant restaurant which saw Sonya and Hadil being “excused from the table”.

“Emma and I actually said to production when we were having interviews that we would prefer to leave the show and give up our spot in the competition because we knew we’re not the greatest cooks and we’re probably not going to win the competition,” Jess said.

“We would happily give our spot to Sonya and Hadil.”

When asked about the physical altercation, Jess and Emma confirmed “there was an incident” but denied that Sonya and Hadil touched them.

“They did not hit us,” the pair said. “We were not physically touched.”

Jess and Emma did confirm that they were injured in the altercation though.

“I was trying to hold the door back and my arm got hurt by the door,” one of them said. “It’s a bruise on my arm from the door. It wasn’t them [Sonya and Hadil] attacking us.”

Jess and Emma were injured in the scuffle.
