FORGET the State of Origin, My Kitchen Rules finale or running of the Melbourne Cup — this year’s must-see television event is the US Election outcome on Wednesday.
The world’s gaze will descend on America in a few days’ time when voters go to the polls to elect either Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton or Republican hopeful Donald Trump.
Australians keen to tune in have no shortage of options, with local networks offering a front-row seat to the circus.
“I’ve covered four elections on the ground here but in terms of what’s at stake for the US and the world, this one is huge,” Sky News political editor David Speers said.
“It’s all rather dramatic. You’ve got two celebrity candidates; it’s incredibly personal and very nasty … entirely about negative character traits. The policies, what’s being said, particularly by Trump … you couldn’t write this script.”
