Marvel superhero Simu Liu stars in thrilling new spy series The Copenhagen Test
Marvel’s first Asian superhero Simu Liu stars as a hacked intelligence analyst in highly anticipated new spy thriller.
Marvel star Simu Liu has entered a whole new universe, taking the lead role in the upcoming spy series, The Copenhagen Test.
The Chinese-Canadian, who is celebrated for being the first ever Asian superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has next-level challenges to face in the eight-part Peacock series, which airs locally on BINGE from February 16.
The trailer for the espionage thriller dropped on Tuesday which shows Liu in character as intelligence analyst Alexander Hale, who realises he has unwillingly become a spy after his brain was hacked by an enemy entity listening and seeing his every move.
Alexander soon finds himself caught between the mysterious intelligence agency he works for and the unknown hackers in a race to prove he hasn’t committed treason, while also trying to hunt down those responsible for hacking his brain.
Stream The Copenhagen Test from February 16 on BINGE, available on Hubbl.
“How long have you willingly been committing treason against the United States government?” he is asked in the trailer.
“You’re the mole, Alexander. Someone’s been watching and listening through you... You were hacked.”
In addition to Liu, the series stars Sinclair Daniel, Brian d’Arcy James, Mark O’Brien, Kathleen Chalfant and Scream star Melissa Barrera, who plays a bartender named Michelle who turns out to be an agent assigned to watch Alexander.
“They want me to play the girlfriend,” she’s heard saying in the trailer to which he responds, “Or you’re just keeping an eye on me.”
The series has been described as Minority Report meets The Bourne Identity, and Liu says there are certainly a lot of layers viewers can sink their teeth into.
“It creates a lot of really juicy layers that’ll hopefully make the audience lean in,” he recently told Entertainment Weekly.
Liu, who became a game-changer after playing the titular superhero on Marvel action flick Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021, also adds that, “It’s not lost on me how rare it is for someone like me to be given even a hypothetical opportunity to be the lead of something. So whenever there’s a chance, I want people to know I’ve been intentional with the material.”
And his fans think the early 2026 premiere date can’t come soon enough.
“I was already hyped but this trailer completely exceed my already sky high expectations,” one tweeted on X. “Give me The Copenhagen Test now!!!!”
“Simu Liu getting hacked in The Copenhagen Test? Bro’s about to Shang-Chi his way through neural firewalls and fake dates with Melissa Barrera,” tweeted another. “This trailer just turned into a paranoia Binge.”
The Copenhagen Test will be available to stream from February 16 on BINGE and will also be available On Demand with episodes premiering on Showcase
