Is Dean the most controversial Married At First Sight contestant to date?

MARRIED At First Sight caused uproar after promoting controversial male stripper Michael last season, but things are about to get even uglier after its newest contestant Dean called out Australian men before airing his “sexist” wishlist.

The red head has been featured in an ad as next season’s groom of the reality TV show, claiming that blokes have lost control of their relationships.

“It’s hard to say without sounding sexist or something, but I like a girl that is a girl and is girlie and knows that I’m the man and that I’m in charge,” he is heard saying in the short clip.

“Also I want someone that listens to me and I want to be the alpha male and she needs to respect me as the man. I think that’s a traditional role that exits in other countries in the world, and Australia’s lost that.”

“A lot of guys are just afraid to be men now, and are getting whipped by their women. I don’t agree with that, and I don’t know why it’s happened.”

Nine has posted the clip on social media with a caption declaring that Dean “wants to be loved, honoured... and obyed.”

Channel 9 may be attempting to keep up the momentum of last season’s success after its drama-filled Married At First Sight averaged one million viewers per episode.

Dean may be the ticket to get more people tuning in after his controversial remarks formed part the 2018 first look into the show.

But fans aren’t happy.

Hundreds of fans of the program have already called out the show, suggesting its contestant choice needed to be reconsidered.

“Well doesn’t this just portray the acceptance of condoning a domineering and controlling partnership led by a male who wants a woman to ‘obey’ his commands. Channel 9 you should be ashamed of yourself for promoting such a direct label of such a sensitive topic. Traditional or not, such partnerships as he desires are toxic and degrading to women,” one Facebook user wrote.

Another said: “Good luck Dean. Won’t last long as I don’t think many women would be that submissive. Won’t be watching this time.”

Many have pointed out that Dean’s inclusion on the show seems especially tone deaf given the sweeping #metoo movement of 2017, as women across entertainment and media have gone public with stories of mistreatment by men:
