Kate Ritchie has announced she will take part in a brand new television series.

The former Home and Away star, who now co-hosts Nova 96.9FM breakfast show, Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie, will star in ABC reality series, The Role Of A Lifetime.

The five-part program, hosted by Amanda Keller, will see the mother-of-one joined by comedian Nazeem Hussein as they navigate the challenges of parenting.

Kate has a nine-year-old daughter, Mae, whom she shares with ex-husband, Stuart Webb.

“Beloved actress Kate Ritchie and comedian Nazeem Hussain will be brought together to act out real-life parenting scenarios, propelling them into immersive and unexpected factual explorations to guide us in raising resilient, happy children,” the official synopsis explained.

“Parenting author, educator and podcaster, Maggie Dent will provide insightful parental guidance throughout.”

The Role of A Lifetime is currently in production and is set to air in 2025.

Late last year, a clip of Ritchie breaking down in tears during a radio interview with Dent went viral, attracting views and comments from all over the world.

The emotional moment came after Dent detailed “the difference between mums and dads”, explaining that due to “biologically wiring”, women often are carrying a significantly heavier mental load.

Ritchie was seen nodding along before starting to cry, with Dent emphasising: “This is the ‘mum brain’ - this is the mental load we carry for the people we love.”

The radio host’s new role will be her first TV appearance since the Channel Seven miniseries, The Claremont Murders. She also starred in Underbelly in 2009 as well as the short-lived Cops LAC and Mr & Mrs Murder.

However, she is best known for playing Sally Fletcher for 20 years on long-running soap Home and Away, from its premiere in 1988 up until 2008.
