Kacey Musgraves performs totally naked in Saturday Night Live-first

Country singer Kacey Musgraves performed totally nude in what has been confirmed as a first for Saturday Night Live.

Saturday Night Live kicked off their 47th season with a first for the show: nudity.

Yes, musical guest Kacey Musgraves was actually singing in the nude as she performed the song Justified off her new album star-crossed, wearing only a pair of cowboy boots as she strummed the guitar.

Last Saturday’s performance marked the first stripped-down moment in the comedy show’s history, with the episode now streaming on Binge.

Kacey’s modesty was hidden by a sheet as she set up.

“She was nude,” Musgraves’ publicist confirmed to Variety. “Precautions were taken, and this was the first time it’s happened on the show.”

The mood-lighting set up for Musgraves made it a little difficult to tell if she was actually singing nude, but this statement clears the air.

Musgraves herself teased the performance on Twitter, sharing an image from a famous scene in Forrest Gump in which Jenny (Robin Wright), using the same guitar-as-clothes technique, performs nude.

Musgraves’ rep did confirm that she was shielded from the audience by a sheet as the performance was set up. Audience members shared their experiences watching the set-up for SNL’s first nudity scene on Reddit.

“Was at the live,” one user wrote. “Pretty sure she was actually naked. I was on the audience side closest to her. Right before her first song, they set up a movable wall, blocking the audience from seeing her. After the song, they moved it back to cover her again and covered her with some sort of towel/robe. She was super chill, kinda walked off stage in the towel and waved. But yeah, seemed pretty legit.”

Although her performance of Justified was a real show-stopper, Musgraves returned for another fully-clothed performance of Camera Roll. This time around, the singer wore a get-up that SNL has surely seen before: a flannel shirt and jeans.
