Iconic US TV show Desperate Housewives set for shock return with a fresh twist

More than a decade after it came to an end, viewers are set to finally make a return to the iconic street of Wisteria Lane.

Eva Longoria doubts that a Desperate Housewives reboot would work

A reboot of the smash hit ABC series Desperate Housewives is in development, it has been announced.

Desperate Housewives starred Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan, who lived on Wisteria Lane and began uncovering dark secrets about one another.

The show became a smash hit around the world and remains one of the most watched shows on streaming services in 2025.

Written by Natalie Chaidez, best known for The Flight Attendant, the new show, titled Wisteria Lane, is described as a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery in the vein of Desperate Housewives, set among a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies.

Chaidez is attached to write and executive produce, with Hollywood star Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone executive producing.

While Eva Longoria recently stated that she would love to return to the franchise that made her famous, there are no current plans for characters from the original series to appear on Wisteria Lane.

According to Deadline, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry was not part of the pitch for the new show but is aware of the project and could be involved in it in some capacity.

The show received 38 Emmy nominations over the course of its run, with Huffman winning Best Lead Actress in a Comedy in 2005 and Kathryn Joosten winning Best Guest ctress in a Comedy twice.

It’s not the first reboot that Disney has in the pipeline. Both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Prison Break, both with pilot orders, are set to return to screens.

Last year, creator Marc Cherry opened up about the significance of the Wisteria Lane set, which has remained built all these years and remains an iconic tourist attraction.

”The character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane; that was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had,” he told People.

Cherry had previously stated that he would be up for rebooting the show in a different decade such as the 60s, in the vein of his Desperate Housewives follow-up Why Women Kill that starred Lucy Liu.

While Desperate Housewives aired it was filled with behind the scenes drama, from feuds among the cast to lawsuits and wild accusations.
