OPENLY bisexual Megan Marx has explained how her rose ceremonies work on Bachelor In Paradise.
“A question I keep getting asked: Can I give my rose to ANYONE? Since I’m openly into guys AND girls?” she wrote alongside a photo of herself on Instagram today.
On the Channel Ten series — which reunites past stars of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette — contestants remain on the show by receiving a rose from a member of the opposite sex.
But before signing onto the show, Marx says she made it clear to producers she likes both guys and girls — and they were more than encouraging for the star to “be who I am and show alternate sexualities”.
“Yes, I am aware that I was going into a show where people would be predominantly straight,” Marx added to her post. “A concern was that I would make women on the show feel uncomfortable — the last thing I wanted was to make a move on someone that didn’t swing my way! Not one person in Paradise made me feel less than normal, less than loved, less than accepted.”
She said she had received messages from viewers confused about her sexuality adding: “My innate sexuality hasn’t changed since before I can remember. Just because I’m with a woman, it doesn’t make me a lesbian. And if I am with a man, it doesn’t make me straight.”
In the initial episodes of the show, viewers saw the 29-year-old develop feelings for male contestant Jake Ellis. And with television promos teasing a potential spark between Megan and incoming intruder Elora, Megan confirmed she can give her rose to anyone at the rose ceremonies.
“I came onto the show looking for a monogamous relationship, that’s all. And so the answer is that YES — I was allowed to give my rose to anyone.”
Marx came into the spotlight when she appeared on the 2016 series of The Bachelor — vying for the heart of Richie Strahan. After leaving the show, she revealed she was dating fellow contestant Tiffany Scanlon. The pair documented their relationship on social media — posing for Maxim magazine and announcing they were moving to Bali together before things came to an end at the beginning of 2017.
