Hot to trot but will Kym Johnson dance back to US?

KYM Johnson has found herself the rose in a thorny scheduling situation — with the grand final date for this year’s series of Dancing With The Stars Australia poised to clash with the launch of a new season of the US franchise.

While it was the American production which granted Johnson a release to take up her role here as a judge on the Channel 7 reality show, it could now be in the tricky position of having to ask for the star to return early if she’s to be a part of season 21 of the US show.

A Seven spokeswoman confirmed the potential problem, with this year’s DWTS Australia grand final reportedly slated for September 13 — just as the US program gets dancing again.

But with some clever juggling and frequent flyer miles, Johnson could potentially do both — rehearsing routines here with any new partner, who would have to fly to Australia for the final two weeks of the local show; before they would both then be required to fly back to Los Angeles the morning after the Seven series signs off.

“If we find ourselves in this dilemma, there’s always a way to work things out. And we would because Kym’s part of the (Channel 7) family,” the publicist said.

It’s not unprecedented for a celebrity dancer to fly-in, fly-out for the US show, with Emmy-nominated choreographer Derek Hough jetting between LA and his starring role on Broadway in Radio City’s Spring Spectacular earlier this year.

Johnson enjoys a solid following on the US format, winning the mirror ball trophy twice previously — first with music icon Donny Osmond, then NFL star Hines Ward.

She had no such luck in the competition last year, but came out a winner in love anyway — turning her dancefloor pairing with millionaire business man and Shark Tank star, Robert Herjavec into a real-life romance. The self-made, Croatian-born Canadian has flown in several times to see Johnson during her working visit home — celebrating her 40th birthday with family and friends in Sydney recently, before whisking her off to Hamilton Island’s luxury Qualia resort.
