A NEW, big-budget talent show featuring Aussie entertainer Dannii Minogue as one of its judges has launched in London.
BBC One will feature the show, Let It Shine, in the prime time Saturday night slot from January, and the show will also appear in Australia on Foxtel subscription channel UKTV.
While many details are still under wraps, the reality show will choose five young men to form a boy band. The band will then star in a real-life musical to tour the UK, based on the music of ‘90s boy band Take That, and called The Band.
The creator of both the show and the musical is former Take That front man Gary Barlow, an old friend of Minogue’s.
The show was launched in a hotel in London’s trendy Soho district yesterday with a screening for 100 British journalists.
Minogue is joined on the judging panel by Barlow, former Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp, and American singer Amber Riley, who played Mercedes on American hit Glee, and is now starring in the West End production of Dream Girls.
The hosts are talk-show star Graham Norton and Great British Bake-Off host Mel Giedroyc.
Minogue is an experienced talent show judge, having performed the role in the X-Factor in the UK, in Australia for seven years and on Australia’s Got Talent. She won the UK version of X-Factor back in 2010 with her singer Matt Cardle.
The early auditions for Let It Shine have been taped, but live shows are due to begin in February.
A final broadcast date has not been set for Australia but is expected to be in January.
