Channel 10 announces programming line-up for 2023 with MasterChef spin-off

Channel 10 has announced its programming line-up for 2023, with a surprising reveal for the popular cooking series MasterChef.

A MasterChef spin-off show, a new look Bachelor and a big change to I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here were among the announcements at Channel 10’s upfronts presentation.

The network revealed its jam-packed 2023 programming line-up in Sydney on Thursday, and perhaps the most exciting news was for MasterChef fans, with a sweet spin-off titled Dessert Masters set to premiere next year.

“This short and sweet series is all about – as the name suggests – desserts, with ten masters of their art battling for the inaugural title of Dessert Master,” a Ten press release reads.

The series will be filmed in the MasterChef kitchen in Melbourne, however Ten did not reveal who would be judging the new series.

Meanwhile, MasterChef has undergone some changes.

The cooking series, hosted by Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen, will have a much shorter run than previous years when it airs in winter, with the upcoming fifteenth season given the title MasterChef Australia: Secrets & Surprises.

MasterChef has traditionally stretched out its run over two months with episodes airing four nights a week, with the decision to make it more compact a bid to maintain audience engagement.

The Bachelor(s)

The Bachelor will premiere in January.

While viewers missed out on their Bach fix this year, the long-running dating show is set to return in January 2023 with three men in the hot seat.

As has already been announced, the show has moved from its Sydney base and is currently being filmed on the Gold Coast.

Host Osher Günsberg said: “We find love and celebrate love better than anyone. And it all happens in our glamorous new home on the Gold Coast.

“There’s a lot that’s going to look and feel very different. I mean, the name of the show for starters. It’s The Bachelors. Plural. There’s three of them. An abundance of Bachelors.

“Joining these three eligible young men from across the country are smart, powerful, beautiful women who – like our Bachelors – are over the dating apps, the ghosting and the inability to commit.”

I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here is heading back to the South African jungle.

After two years filming in the Australian outback due to the Covid-19 pandemic restricting international travel, the ninth season of I’m A Celeb is officially returning to the South African jungle in 2023.

The show, hosted by Julia Morris and Chris Brown, is set to premiere around Easter.

Australian Survivor is another returning favourite, and will debut in February with the ‘Heroes Versus Villains’ theme, while Gogglebox Australia has also been renewed.

New shows coming to Ten

Tom Gleeson has landed his own show on Channel 10 in 2023.

Hard Quiz host Tom Gleeson has landed his own show on Ten, Taskmaster Australia.

The Gold Logie winner will helm the show as the ‘Taskmaster’, with comedian Tom Cashman filling in as his devoted assistant.

Ten also announced Julia Morris, Luke McGregor, Jimmy Rees, Nina Oyama and Danielle Walker would comprise the cast of comedians for the inaugural season.

“Each week the two Toms set five comedians a range of ridiculous tasks designed to bamboozle brains and put funny bones to the test,” a statement read.

For crime lovers, a new thriller series titled North Shore, created by Mike Bullen and starring Joanne Froggatt, follows a British detective and his Australian counterpart team up to solve a murder.

In lighter viewing, a new fictional series Paper Dolls will charter the meteoric rise of a girl band who shot to fame on a reality TV show.

As for reality TV, Location, Location, Location will premiere next year, helping everyday Aussies to find their dream home.
