Nicole Kidman has revealed heartbreaking news that her beloved mother Janelle is unwell, with the Oscar-winning actress currently in Australia looking after her.

In an interview with the Fresh Air podcast on Wednesday, the 54-year-old actress opened up about her mother’s health issues and how she wanted to “surround her with her grandchildren”.

She also said the family managed to spend some quality time at the Art Gallery of New South Wales after-hours, where they took in the Matisse: Life & Spirit exhibition, describing it as “soothing balm”.

“So luckily yesterday, even though Omicron is raging through this country, we were able to take her into the gallery after hours and show her the Matisse exhibit, which coming from a mother who’s raised me in the arts, it was soothing balm,” she said.

“Matisse was soothing balm last night.”

The last time Kidman was spotted with her mother was at the Being the Ricardos premiere in Sydney around mid-December, with the two women appearing together on the red carpet.

“I’m at the place where I’m being given the chance to view the world, because of how close we are, my mum is giving me the chance to view the world through an 81-year-old woman’s eyes,” she said.

“That is so beneficial right now, because she’s so cognisant. She has every brain faculty available, so she hasn’t lost anything. She hasn’t lost any memory, which is fascinating, and she’s extremely bright.

“She’s giving me access, because she’s also very direct and very honest, and so I’m getting access to the world through her eyes, my mother’s eyes, so therefore a part of me almost at 80.”

FULL LIST: FOUR AUSSIE STARS UP SAG AWARDS

Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman are among multiple Aussie actors who will be looking to add to their trophy collections, after they were nominated at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Kidman (Being the Ricardos) is up for outstanding performance by a female actor, while Blanchett (Nightmare Alley) is nominated for her supporting role.

Voted for by actors, the SAG awards are seen as a strong indicator of Oscars glory, since actors represent the largest branch of the roughly 10,000 Oscar voters in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
