There have been emotional scenes on SAS Australia, with Anna Heinrich breaking down in tears as she became the latest celebrity recruit to quit the show.
The 2013 Bachelor winner – along with her campmates – was treated to a video of her loved ones from home earlier in Tuesday night’s episode, with her husband, Tim Robards, appearing alongside their one-year-old daughter, Elle.
Heinrich, 35, sobbed as Robards delivered the message: “Hey babe, it’s your two favourite people. We wanna say, ‘Hello Mummy.’ We’re so proud of you and if you come out today you can hold your head so proud. But you’ve gone this far so you may as well keep going.”
Afterwards, faced with the prospect of another gruelling challenge which would see her submerge herself in a tub of icy water at night, Heinrich decided it was her time to go.
Taking off her armband and breaking down in tears, the reality TV star told chief instructor Ant Middleton of her decision.
“I think it’s my time. I just, I can’t do this anymore. I feel like I’ve given it my absolute all. I’m really proud of myself,” the tearful Heinrich said.
Later, as she geared up to leave camp, Middleton admitted that he and the rest of the DS hadn’t expected her to go as far as she did in the course.
“When we first looked at you, and we don’t judge a book by its cover, we thought, ‘three, four days max’,” he said.
“And then you just peaked like this, and all of a sudden it’s like, all right. You’ve done amazing … You go back to your daughter. What a role model she has in you.
“Realise how strong you are … is powerful. That’s taken you, dragged your body through something phenomenal. And you should realise that, how headstrong you are. Don’t let anyone get into your head and tell you otherwise, ’cause they’ll have me to deal with.”
It comes after Heinrich broke down while making a heartbreaking admission on the course earlier this week.
Heinrich was tasked with an “honesty test” during Monday night’s episode that required all of the show’s celebrity contestants to reveal their secret shame.
“I just don’t feel like I’m ever good enough and I’m just ashamed of sometimes who I am,” she said, breaking down during the emotional confession.
“And how I wanna be better and not so negative and have more self belief – and especially now that I’ve got a daughter. I wanna make sure I can instil that in her.”
Heinrich had given birth to her first child, daughter Elle, only a year before taking part in Channel 7’s extreme reality series, which filmed last year near Dapto on the south coast of NSW.
After suffering through a savage endurance test in freezing conditions on Monday’s episode, Heinrich was pushed to her limits and finished the challenge while displaying signs of hypothermia.
After leaving the course on Tuesday, Heinrich took to Instagram to share images of the extensive injuries she sustained during filming.
In one photo, the TV star had visible red scabbing along one elbow and cuts across her hands and knuckles.
Another showed her legs, which were covered with black and purple bruising.
“The night I came off the course,” Heinrich wrote in the caption.
“I was exhausted, depleted, I was battered and bruised, but extremely proud.”
SAS Australia continues 7.30pm Monday on Channel 7.
