Former Beauty and the Geek runner-up turned drug dealer Jordan Finlayson is modelling again after being released from prison 10 weeks ago.
The 30-year-old beauty was sentenced to at least two years and three months behind bars after being caught in a heroin dealing ring alongside her boyfriend Martin Roser, who was jailed for five years.
The one-time Cronulla Sharks cheerleader was arrested in June 2019 after selling tens of thousands of dollars in drugs to undercover police officers. At the time, the lingerie model had a crippling $5000-a-week drug addiction.
Now, Finlayson has returned to the modelling and waitressing world, but says she’s avoiding “parties, podium gigs and lingerie shoots” which she said made her feel pressured to do drugs and sent her into a downward spiral in her 20s.
“I am deeply ashamed and embarrassed of what I had become: Drugs are selfish and robbed me of my five years of my 20s,” Finlayson, who appeared on season 3 of Beauty and The Geek, told The Daily Telegraph.
“Prison was scary, with some big, intimidating women and I was very sick coming off drugs in clinic,” she said of her time behind bars at Silverwater, Mary Wade and Dillwynia correctional centres.
“It was the wrong place for me. There were no family visits in lockdown, but it was the wake-up call I needed. I had broken the law and had done wrong. Until then I believed I was invincible.
“I spent my 30th birthday in Dillwynia where I met some lovely women who had made stupid choices, like me, and took me under their wing.”
Finlayson applied for parole earlier this year with a letter to court in which she said her actions “let everyone down”. She said: “We all make mistakes. It’s how we come back from them that really matters”.
During her trial, the court was told Finlayson made $40,000 from dealing in total, which was mostly spent funding her drug habit and co-offender’s debts. It was revealed that at the time of her arrest, she was blowing $5000 a week on Xanax, GBL, ice, cocaine and heroin. She was handed a prison sentence in April 2020.
Since her release, Finlayson has turned her back on Sydney’s party scene and is seeking counselling and attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings to stay clean.
The former reality star says she’s focusing on rebuilding relationships with her family, while studying a NEIS course in entrepreneurship and new business. She has also begun accepting promotional and modelling assignments, but is conscious of the areas to avoid.
“I’m steering clear from parties, from modelling at parties and podium gigs, where drugs are readily accessible,” she said.
“No more lingerie shoots that make you feel pressured to take drugs to look slim.”
The former lingerie model had once posed for Penthouse and had more than 40,000 Instagram followers.
Before her release from prison, Finlayson had always intended to return to modelling, but above all wanted to make her parents “proud of their daughter” again.
