Reality TV star Brooke Blurton has broken her months-long social media silence to share the tragic news that her sister has died.
In a statement shared to her Instagram story, Brooke, who stars in this year’s much-anticipated Bachelorette season, said she had been absent from socials due to her filming the series.
But after filming wrapped up Western Australia resident Brooke, who had remained in NSW due to coronavirus border restrictions, received news her sister had died.
“I do like to think I live a very private life but I kinda felt like I wanted to share with you where I’m at. Something hugely personal and vulnerable,” she said.
“On the 11/8 I just received news that my sister had passed away.”
Since then the Indigenous Noonga-Yamatji woman said she had been “trying to process that on my own being stuck in a Sydney Lockdown without my family, off country and by myself”.
Brooke said she had tried multiple times to get an exemption allowing her to return to WA with “huge support from production and friends working tirelessly”.
After several unsuccessful attempts leaving her feeling “depleted and distraught” Brooke said her compassionate grounds G2G Pass for WA was finally approved on Friday night.
Brooke said she felt incredibly grateful to be able to return home and wanted to share her story to show others struggling that they weren’t alone.
“I know we’re all doing it pretty friggen rough with the current world climate,” she said.
“Look to the sky and lift your heads up. We will get through this.”
In May, Channel 10 announced that Brooke, who is bisexual, was to be this year’s Bachelorette and would date both men and women on the show in a series first.
The youth worker became a fan favourite after appearing on the Honey Badger’s season of The Bachelor in 2018 before going on to appear on Bachelor in Paradise the following year.
“I am so ready for this,” Brooke said in a press release.
“I’ve done it twice before and now, having the opportunity to choose my person and who I want in my life, is a truly unique and special experience.
