Toni Pearen has waited more than five decades for her dream TV gig.
The former E Street star received the call up to host Young Talent Time Unmasked, a show she has wanted to feature on since she was a kid.
“I cannot believe I am a part of this, it is a childhood dream come true,” Pearen told Saturday Confidential.
“As a child, all I dreamed about was being a part of Young Talent Time and who would have thought 50 years on, I would have received this call out of the blue to host YTT Unmasked?”.
And while her appearance on last year’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here still haunts her, the mother-of-two said she wouldn’t change a thing because she believes her stint on the program landed her this job.
“I still have a bit of post-traumatic stress from I’m A Celebrity … whenever I see footage,” she said.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience, but I would never do anything like that again, never again.
“But maybe if I hadn’t had done I’m a Celebrity, I wouldn’t be hosting the anniversary … so it feels like every single career decision I have made has led to this moment.”
Just like many other Australian’s, Pearen’s childhood was spent fantasising about meeting and performing with many of the program’s stars, which included Tina Arena, Dannii Minogue and Debra Byrne.
“My obsession day and night was Dannii Minogue and secretly I am still obsessed with her,” she said.
“I adored her and wrote to her quite regularly and I still have the card she sent me at Christmas time in 1984 which said ‘To Toni, love your friend Dannii Minogue’.
“I still have it in an album and if my house was burning down, I would absolutely grab that.”
YTT Unmasked is set to air tomorrow night (Subs Sunday) and will see former host Johnny Young engage with some of the show’s biggest names.
