‘Wild’: Bluey star’s theory why hit children’s show is censored in the US

Censorship of the hit children’s TV show overseas has left fans and cast members alike scratching their heads. Now one of the program’s most recognisable voices has revealed a theory.

Why ABC is missing out on massive Bluey payday

Australia’s favourite children show was censored in the US and part of the cast can’t understand why.

Beloved children’s show Bluey has taken the world by storm since its debut in 2018, captivating audiences in 160 countries with its heartwarming stories about an Australian blue heeler dog who loves embarking on playful adventures with her sister Bingo, mother, and father.

Melanie Zanetti, who voices Bluey’s mother, Chilli, was “shocked” to learn that some episodes of the show had been banned in America.

“I find it wild,” Zanetti told TMZs Charlie Cotton on his Big Down Under podcast.

“The amount of things that are acceptable in America but a fart-focused episode was not, I find so funny.

“I don’t know if they are actually that much more sensitive, or whether they are just being careful.

“I feel like the things around swearing, there’s a little bit more concern there (in the US) whereas Australians I feel are much more laid back.”

The series has not only gained a massive following among children but also among parents. Its combination of relatable content, high production values, and strong emotional depth has contributed to Bluey’s widespread success.

While the show is set to become a movie for release in 2027, Zanetti – who has never been vocally recognised in public – says it’s going to be “huge.”

“I can’t tell you anything but scripts have been read and it’s incredible. I’m so excited,” she said.

Zanetti expressed her commitment to voicing Chilli until the very end of the show. Meanwhile, the identities of the children who voice Bluey and Bingo remain a closely guarded secret to protect their privacy.

“I think the decision is amazing,” Zanetti said.

“It’s just the care and protection of the children in the show. We’ve seen enough horror stories from young performers growing up and having a really difficult time. These little kids are going to be able to have a full childhood and don’t have to worry about any of that.”

As for when, or if, the identities of the young actors will ever be revealed, Zanetti said it’s a waiting game.

“I guess it will be a decision from the parents, maybe when they are 18 and they can come out and say whoever was who, but I think it was super smart.”
