“(I’m) overwhelmed with gratitude, insanely grateful,” Grande told The Daily Telegraph.

“Everyone has been so kind to us, this has been really fun.”

“This is the most wonderful experience, we are two very lucky human beings right now,” Erivo added.

Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode and Ethan Slater are also in Sydney and walked the ‘golden’ carpet at the State Theatre to start a run of premieres around the globe.

“This is an opening night this is like a Broadway show ... nobody in a big group, in a beautiful theatre like this has seen it ever before,” Jeff Goldblum told The Daily Telegraph.

“We all hope we love this movie and we all hope this world and many other threats on many other nights get a big kick out of it, but this is the first one I’m thrilled.”

Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey who plays Fiyero Tigelaar in the new film is happy to be in Sydney with family who live here.

“I went trick or treating in Newtown with my nieces ... I get to sit next to my sister and watch the film which reminds me of the wonderment of watching Jurassic Park with the family when I was six so it’s really special,” he said.

Based on the 1996 novel and the groundbreaking 2003 musical, the film tells the untold story of two witches intertwining their fates with the iconic characters from The Wizard of Oz.

Wicked is slated to open in cinemas on November 23 with the stellar cast also including Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh, and Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage.
