More than 18 months into the global pandemic, it seems young Aussie kids have a pretty solid grasp on coronavirus.
Wash your hands, wear a mask, social distancing and get vaccinated was the overwhelming message as The Daily Telegraph surveyed children aged between three and nine across the state and in the ACT.
“Covid is a germ that keeps spreading from one person to another,” eight-year-old Spencer said. “Covid means that you should always respect the world, otherwise something bad will happen.”
Twins Grace and Chloe, nine, said Covid is a virus “that got spread around the world”.
Their three-year-old sister also understood the pandemic.
“Coronavirus is where people get sick so you have to wear masks,” Bella said.
Kairi, six, explained that people should cover their nose and mouth with their elbow when they cough or sneeze.
“Coronavirus is you can’t touch anyone,” she said. “You keep your germs to yourself.”
The kids explained that to get vaccinated, you make an appointment with your doctor while seven-year-old Kai said “you track down a vaccine shop and go to there”.
“You get a needle that helps stop you from getting the coronavirus,” Abigail, six, said.
The bonus of vaccination, added five-year-old Xavier, is scoring “a strawberry cupcake” afterwards.
