American singer Madison Beer is hoping to get up close to some Aussie fauna on her first tour here.

Having played Brisbane last night, Grammy nominated Beer is headed to Sydney for a show at the Hordern Pavilion on Thursday night.

“I would love to hold a koala,” Beer told Confidential.

Informed chlamydia is a major issue for Australia’s koala population, she said: “That’s okay, I don’t judge.”

Beer is a huge star in the US and indeed around the world. She has a huge social media following, 39 million followers on Instagram alone.

She got her start by posting covers on YouTube at the age of 12, scoring a breakthrough when Justin Bieber posted a link to one of her videos.

Her debut album, Life Support, which spawned several singles, was released in 2021, with sophomore release Silence Between Songs out two years later. The 25-year-old is a platinum-selling music artist, songwriter, producer and author – her book, The Half Of It: A Memoir, was released last year.

“When I got to Radio City (Music Hall, in New York), felt like I should write something (a plan) because I knew I was going to be so nervous in the moment,” she said.

“But then I also knew that it was going to feel inauthentic … and so if I fumble and mess up, whatever, that’s also me. So it’s fine, I spoke from my heart and it felt really good and it felt it felt like the right thing to do so I never really plan things.

“I’m much better on the spot because if I have time to plan things and sit and harp on it, I’m just going to not say anything.”
