Torah Bright has responded to a barrage of commentary — much of it negative — after sharing an image of herself doing a headstand while breastfeeding.

Torah Bright has spoken about her headstand breastfeeding social media post, saying she “feels a bit silly” addressing the issue.

The 34-year-old Winter Olympic snowboarder copped a barrage of commentary, much of it negative, after sharing the image, as well as set up shots skateboarding while breastfeeding baby son, Flow.

“Did anyone really think that that’s how I breastfeed?” the athlete questioned in an Instagram video.

“Mothers, we need to encourage each other. We need to lift each other up. We need to pay each other compliments. We need to support each other. We need to be each others biggest cheer leaders.

“Motherhood is so beautiful but the reality is we are the only ones who know just how hard those hard moments are and we need to have each others back, not compare each other and judge each other because we all do things so differently.”

Bright explained that she had been up hourly with her 10-month-old teething.

She said she had been inundated with “a lot of negative comments from mothers”, and some positive.

“I feel so silly even addressing this,” she wrote.

“The photo was just a little bit of pure fun! Celebrating the bond between mother and child. I can understand how it’s not everyone’s taste, that’s fine.

“But from some of the negative feedback, what has struck me most is how we all, especially mothers need to support and up lift. Not judge a moment in time. Let’s find the village of motherhood to grow and support each other.”

Bright also appeared on breakfast television addressing the images she shared this month with her nearly 200,000 Instagram followers.

“I don’t spend too much time curating my Instagram,” she told Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon.

“I share what is happening in my world and since I’ve had a baby, boob is life. I am just sharing how I go about my days because otherwise I guess I wouldn’t share anything. We are having a rad time, we have the most fun ever.”
