HAS he or hasn’t he?
While there has a fair amount of interest in Ian Thorpe’s newfound American accent during television coverage of the Invictus Games during the past week, it has been Thorpe’s world famous nose that has sparked speculation the Invictus Games ambassador has recently undergone cosmetic surgery.
While Thorpe’s representative did not respond to our inquiry yesterday, photographs of Thorpe suggest the work took place mid last year, shortly before he signed on as an ambassador for eyewear brand Specsavers and ahead of the World Swimming Championships in Budapest where he commentated for the Seven Network.
His rumoured new nose is most evident in profile with the Olympian choosing a classic “ski jump” profile — a procedure which would have seen the sculpting of cartilage in the centre of his appendage.
The rumoured cosmetic transformation comes after Thorpe opened up about his battle with “crippling depression” in his 2013 biography. In 2014 he went into rehabilitation for alcoholism and depression before coming out to TV interviewer Michael Parkinson later that year.
