Sydney has more than a fighting chance of winning The Voice crown for 2021.
Two of the four finalists to make it through to Sunday’s grand final are from the Harbour City.
Bella Taylor-Smith and Arlo Sim will fly the Sydney flag after standout performances at Sunday night’s semi-final in which the top eight were cut to four.
Joining them will be Victorian lawnmower man Michael Harrington and Adelaide girls group G-Nat!on.
“I can’t put into words how grateful I am for this whole opportunity,” Taylor-Smith, 24, who is being mentored by Sebastian, said. “It’s given me a new sense of excitement and hope for my future and the future of my family. We’ve all had a rough few years and winning would help me take a deep breath and realise that I’ve got this. I would pay some bills, take my sister on a holiday and then continue to perform, write and record music.”
Seven has supercharged The Voice since nabbing the format from rival Nine, which has proven a ratings winner for the network.
Until now, due to Covid, all episodes have been prerecorded with coaches Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Keith Urban making the decision as to who made it through in each round.
For the grand final, viewers will have their say with audience voting opening on Sunday night.
Online betting site Sportsbet has Taylor-Smith favourite to win with odds of 1.8, ahead of G-Nat!on at 3.0, Sim at 5.0 and Harrington at 10.0.
All four artists have released original singles going into the final week of the competition. For Taylor-Smith, that is a track called Higher, while Sim, 19, is releasing a song titled Feel.
Sim, on Team Keith, is already thinking about his debut album regardless of who wins the title.
“I have lots of ideas for my new album and I’m really excited and motivated to crack on with it,” Sim said. “I’ve got so many lyrics and ideas scribbled down and I cannot wait to work on them. One of my main goals, since I was a kid, is to release an original album so to have the opportunity and the luxury of time is something I’m very grateful for.”
