The Veronicas say sick mum Colleen helped after vicious trolling over Qantas

The Veronicas say caring after their sick mum Colleen has helped them focus on what truly matters after they were targeted by trolls following their clash with Qantas

Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am accuses Qantas flight attendant of racism

After several weeks of media scrutiny and vicious trolling, The Veronicas are ready to put the Qantas drama behind them.

Jessica and Lisa Origliasso told Confidential that their sick mother Colleen has helped shift their perspectives to focus on what’s truly important following their stoush with Qantas.

“Our mummy is sick, we have mortality staring us down every single day,” Jess said.

“To engage in such low vibrational bulls*** is not worth it and when you come to (charity) events like today with Share The Dignity and hear the stories it’s not even worth a mention.”

Colleen, 71, was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia last year which prompted the twin sisters to move back home to Queensland from Los Angeles to help care for her.

“She’s a strong woman, she’s our hero,” Jess said.

Back in September, the beloved pop duo tweeted their frustration after being escorted by police off a Qantas flight, following a dispute with a flight attendant.

The incident was brought to light again this month after they supported Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, who was embroiled in a separate dispute with the same airline.

Their tweets garnered mixed reactions and TV commentator Prue MacSween led the criticism after blasting the twin sisters as “just a couple of insolent spoilt brats”.

“I used to like @iamwill but not now. His arrogant behaviour, identification of the @Qantas employee who was doing her job and playing of the racist card have lost me. And as for The Veronicas, they are just a couple of insolent spoilt brats,” MacSween tweeted.

Jess and Lisa have since deleted their official Twitter account.

“The human psychology and the psychology of people on the internet is an incredible thing. The internet is such a beautiful tool to be able to connect and share things that are important like different causes that we’re passionate about,” Jess said.

“Just to be able to have the conversations around what’s happening within our communities and how we can lend our voices to people that need it … and to see the internet with all it’s scope of possibility being used in the way that it’s constantly used by people is incredibly disappointing. We do believe that people should lift each other up.

“I do believe that everybody has the ability to be able to connect with the giving part of themselves. I think we’ve become addicted and the internet can create a bubble of narcissism for anybody, us included.”

Lisa added: “It’s very easy for anyone to have an opinion on the internet and the opinion of your family and those who really love and care about you are the ones that matter the most.”

The sisters, who recently launched their MTV reality show The Veronicas: Blood is For Life, recently partnered with homeless women’s charity Share the Dignity, to help those in need.
