The Hollywood actor that made the character of Shooter McGavin a cult favourite has hinted at Australian legend Greg ‘The Shark’ Norman making a cameo in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel.

Christopher McDonald was however careful with his words when Confidential caught up with the 70-year-old industry veteran.

“Should I say his name? I think I would get in trouble,” McDonald said when asked if any Australians would be part of the film. “It is very exciting.”

Happy Gilmore 2 is slated for release at the end of July on Netflix. McDonald played McGavin in the 1996 original and has previously stated Norman was his character inspiration.

“It is going to be very funny,” he said, in Sydney to film the new Uber One x McDonald’s campaign.

“It is going to have an incredible amount of beautiful cameos from the golfing world, some of whom have been released already but some will be great surprises. They are editing it right as we speak. I think it is going to be a home run but you never really know anything, it is how the fans respond to it.”

Cameos already announced include Jack Nicklaus, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, John Daly and Brooks Koepka.

American footballers Reggie Bush and Travis Kelce are also set to appear.

McDonald meanwhile is known for his diverse range of work over his nearly 50 years in the business, ranging from Grease 2 to Thelma and Louise and Outrageous Fortune.

He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his role in the Jean Smart led Hacks.

“I’m blessed to be on that show,” he said.

“I don’t know who else could have played Jean Smart’s part. She just embodies it, it is very fun to watch.”

Shooting the Uber One x McDonald’s campaign marked the actors first trip to Australia, something he said was a big tick off his “bucket list”.

“I was delighted to be invited,” he said.
