From the tennis in Flushing Meadows to horse racing at Royal Randwick: Sydney’s prestigious Everest horse racing carnival now comes with a side of food festival.

Like major sporting events around the World, The Everest has becoming more than the world’s richest race on turf.

This year, Taste of Turf will launch during the carnival and sees 25 of Sydney’s top chefs serving samples of their signature dishes at a cocktail event, while top jockeys and trainers help serve guests.

The event is a iteration of Taste of Tennis, which for 22 years was the precursor event to the US Open and had champion athletes like Roger Federer and Monica Seles in attendance.

Adam Hill from Flying Fish Restaurant, Danny Russo from Sala, Chase Kojimo from Sokyo, Sebastian Tan from Jinja and David Wright from Buon Ricordo Restaurant are some of the big culinary names taking part in the event.

From oysters to dumplings, event organiser Karen Scott Happer, who ran Taste of Tennis, said the selection of chefs and dishes on offer is “the best collection” she’s ever seen.

“Sydney has seen nothing like this before. It’s a combination of a networking party and food festival,” she said.

Racing NSW Chief Operating Officer Graeme Hinton said the racing carnival has become a highly sought after event in Sydney’s calendar.

‘It’s a testament to the unbelievable success of The TAB Everest that the organisers of New York’s famous Taste of Tennis event reached out to us to create a Taste of Turf concept as part of Everest Week in Sydney,” he said.

Taste of the Turf now provides a unique and never before seen way to experience some of Sydney’s finest cuisine, hosted by Sydney’s leading jockeys at the wonderful new Winx stand at Royal Randwick.’

Chef and owner of Buon Ricordo, David Wright said he was “truly honoured” to be part of the inaugural Taste of Turf.

Taste of The Turf will be held on October 11th, four days before the running of The Everest on Saturday 14th October. Tickets are on sale now.
