Welcome to Sydney’s fickle hospitality scene.
This week, Sydney’s has seen the return of a notable figure, while another restaurant has closed its doors.
Well known eastern suburbs identity and interior designer Josh Clapp, who has been responsible for designing classic King Cross nightclub Flamingo Lounge, has opened a new bar in the CBD.
Arcade is a four-tiered venue on O’Connell Street and will feature new light installations on it’s heritage ceiling every night.
Executive Chef Yong Ong has been in charge of the menu which includes everything from oysters and charcuterie, wood-fire grill sirloin and The Fireball cinnamon-infused tiramisu.
Clapp, whose Steel and Stitch has worked on venues like Franca, Amorica and Toppi and in the past dated model Megan Gale, said “there will be surprises. Incredible service and a lot of smiles and fun.”
The new bar opening comes as one of Sydney’s most famous fine-dining seafood restaurants Cirrus Dining, has announced its closure after eight years.
The Barangaroo restaurant, owned by The Bentley Restaurant Group, will shut up shop on September 1.
In a statement, co-owners Brett Savage and Nick Hildebrant said the decision to close the restaurant came about because, “we were unable to strike a deal with our new landlord.”
“Although this is disappointing, it has opened the door for new opportunities which will be announced soon. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved at Cirrus,” they said.
It comes as The Bentley Group recently changed the direction of their other CBD restaurant Monopole. Last month, the wine-focused restaurant — which originally opened 12-years ago in Potts Point — became a French restaurant.
