Sydney salons are on red-alert for October, with the news that David Beckham will join Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in the city.

The ex-footballer signed on as an ambassador for The Invictus Games this week and is expected to join the royal couple for the tournament which starts October 20.

Hair salons, nail bars and boutiques are bracing themselves for a surge in custom from fans who will want to look their best — not that anyone will admit it.

But the possibility of bumping into not only Harry and Meghan but now also David Beckham around the city’s hot spots is tipped to bring a much-needed boom to retail outlets and eateries.

The royal couple has booked an eastern suburbs mansion for their stay, rumoured to be the $40 million Villa Del Mare in Point Piper, which comes with a butler’s residence. Perhaps David could kip in there.

It’s not known if wife Victoria will join the gang, but to be honest, that might tip the city over the edge.

One person who will be ripping up his ticket to the games is Malcolm Turnbull, who met with Harry and Meghan in London in April.

“You’ll receive an absolutely rapturous welcome in Sydney,” the then prime minister assured the couple, not realising it wouldn’t be by him.

Kensington Palace is presumably furiously preparing a Who is Scott Morrison crib-sheet and praying he’ll still be in situ by the time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s flight lands in Sydney.

They will be here as part of a tour of Australia and New Zealand and Beckham is also slated to visit Melbourne in October in his role as a global ambassador for insurance giant AIA.

While official schedules have not been released, whispers of possible appearances at the Melbourne Cup are rippling through racegoers, with the Birdcage aflutter and hat-makers hoping for their best year ever.

The Beckhams are buddies with the royal couple, having attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May, where a sour-faced Victoria realised she had been upstaged by new BFFs George and Amal Clooney. The latter won the wedding in her canary yellow Stella McCartney frock.

Harry and Meghan have also just returned from a mini-break at the Clooneys’ pad on Lake Como, Italy. The couple flew there in Clooney’s private jet and spent a few days hanging by the pool, playing with the twins and enjoying dinner parties.

Now if only Harry could sign up George and Amal for the Invictus Games too, it would be game over.
