Sydney DJ duo Sunset Bros team up with Nollsie to remix ‘What About Me’

Shannon Noll’s 2004 cover was the highest selling Aussie single of the year. It’s back, with a hard house remix from DJ duo Sunset Bros and Nollsie aiming to hit the sweet spot. Again.

The biggest collaboration of 2022 that no one saw coming is here.

Sydney DJ duo Sunset Bros have teamed up with Shannon Noll to produce a banging new version of Nollsie’s 2004 cover hit ‘What About Me’.

Teasers for the hard house remix, out today, garnered hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok, with Noll’s Australian Idol alums Guy Sebastian and Osher Gunsberg throwing their support behind the track.

“I already feel like it’s 10pm at Crystals Bundy and I am ready to fire up,” Gunsberg commented.

Aussie singer Taylor Henderson added: “If this doesn’t go number one, I’m suing Spotify.” Sebastian simply left a fire emoji.

“I think I was still at school when I first heard Nollsie’s What About Me, he’d just won Idol,” Adriano Mercurio told Confidential.

“He didn’t win,” Glenn Wilson corrected.

“Sorry, Guy won. The greatest Australian robbery,” Mercurio joked.

“I remember the film clip more than anything, of him in the old ute,” Mercurio said.

Since Sunset Bros posted on social media about potentially remaking the classic track, fans have been frothing to hear the finished product. Noll even joined them onstage at their sold out Hordern show last month, to the surprise and delight of the 5000-strong crowd.

“I was so blessed and to be able to introduce this song to a new generation 20 years ago,” Noll said. “Hopefully we can do it again. It goes to show the calibre of the song, people can really relate to it.”

The Australian Idol season one runner-up said he enjoyed re-recording his vocals.

“Being able to work with an Aussie icon like Shannon was pretty surreal,” Mercurio said.

“It’s just one of those tracks with a special healing power.”

Wilson said]: “He is like the true blue Aussie, but he’s such a kind-hearted person. We were all giving each other hugs and kisses last night.”

Noll’s original version of ‘What About Me’ is certified four times platinum, and was the highest selling single in Australia in 2004.

“For us, it’s such an honour to be able to do this on such an iconic track. Shannon spoke about how it went number one 20 years before he covered it,” Mercurio said. “And it went number one when he did it, and hopefully it’ll go number one again. We just hope all of Australia feels the love and gets behind it.”

Noll told Confidential he’s really excited to see what fans think of the new version, which he thinks the Bros “nailed”.
