The Bachelor Australia for 2020 is Locklan ‘Locky’ Gilbert – a former contestant on Survivor – who describes himself as “a big teddy bear” who falls in love “pretty quick”.
Announced as the new star of the popular reality TV dating show, the 195cm tall adventure guide will be familiar to Australian TV audiences.
“As big as I am, I am like a big teddy bear and I fall in love pretty quick,” Gilbert said. “If I have that excitement with someone, it is full steam ahead and before you know it I’m in love again.”

The 30-year-old is an experienced cave diver, base jumper, mountaineer and athlete runs his own adventure business in Western Australia.
When not travelling the world, Gilbert enjoys the simple things in life like family, friends and a good meat pie or sausage roll.
“I really want to find love,” he said. “I’m pretty content with my life at the moment. I go on crazy adventures, but I’m doing it all by myself. I’ve got best friends but I want to find that one best friend that I can spend the rest of my life with.
“This is an amazing opportunity to hopefully find someone special at the end.”
Gilbert follows a long list of Bachelor hopefuls, including the first ever star of the Australian show, Tim Robards, and fan favourite Matthew Johnson.
On The Bachelorette front, we’ve seen most recently Angie Kent, as well as Georgia Love, Sam Frost and Sophie Monk in their pursuit of love.
“They need to have confidence,” Gilbert said of his potential life partner.
“If they’re confident and it is just moving very easily, that is what gets me excited. But if you have to force it, then I tend to back away pretty quick.
“I’m as subtle as a brick so, if there’s nothing there, then I kind of lose attention and it goes somewhere else.
“I suppose if you can keep my attention, then you’re going to keep me pretty happy.”
The Bachelor 2020 will begin filming in Sydney over the coming days and will air on Channel 10 later this year.
