Survivor winner David Genat makes no apologies for playing a ruthless game.

The top male model said he went on to the All Star season of the reality show with nothing but taking home the $500,000 prize money on his mind.

“I was cutthroat, that is how I play the game and that is how I think it should be played,” Genat told Confidential.

“You’ve got to put your feelings aside and do what needs to be done. I was definitely pretty ruthless. Everyone in the game, especially All Stars, knows what you sign up for.”

Genat, 40, tonight/last night beat his final two competitors to take home the title, Moana Hope and Sharn Coombes.

That’s on top of 20 others previously eliminated from the competition, which was shot in Fiji.

“I went in with that mantra in my head, I never let myself think I was going to lose,” the father of four said.

“I’ve heard it is a technique navy Seals use to be their biggest cheerleader no matter how bad they are doing. I had that mantra the whole way through and here I am, winning in the end.”

Admitting the game can “get personal”, Genat felt no sympathy for his competition.

“You have to remind yourself that while you’ve gotten close to those people, you have only known them for 50 days,” he said.

“There are people I have known for 40 years that are relying on me so I was playing for people outside the game, not the people inside the game.”

As to what he intends on doing with his winnings, Genat will bring his family home from the US where they have been based for several years to Australia.

“And I am going to do some fun stuff,” he said. “I am really into motorcycles, really cliche model-type stuff so I will probably buy a new bike or two.”

With COVID-19 meaning Australians are staying home as much as possible, Genat will put his wining celebrations on hold and is hoping to take an extended holiday when allowed.

He is also hoping to “stay on television if possible”.

“We are entertaining a couple of things,” Genat, who lost 14.6kgs on the island, explained. “Obviously productions have all slowed down a lot, which isn’t great, but I will be involved with some stuff on Aussie TV.”
